Stony Rise Reserve

‘Stony Rise’ is a 65 acre Private Forest Reserve at the end of Longwood Road, Green Valley, Bagdad; 12 minutes from the Midland Highway and 45 minutes from central Hobart (see map). It includes our home and a large, comfortable house available for self-catering short-term use.

General Aim

To create a retreat/holiday/workshop space for small groups wishing to enjoy the advantages of ‘going bush’ by providing a homely, basic, robust self-catering house for a modest fee.

Conservation Aims

To protect and enjoy the 65 acre dry sclerophyll forest reserve.
To share the reserve with others including people who want to learn more about it and assist with its conservation and preservation. Stony Rise is a Private Forest Reserve.

‘Stony Rise’ retreat is a fully self-contained residence located on the reserve. The house has 5 bedrooms and can sleep up to 10 people. It has a large kitchen, a lounge room, 2 bathrooms and toilets. There is also a large room which would support group work or small meetings (approximately 20 people). There is good access, with useful external areas including a sheltered barbecue space. It is great for birdwatchers, artists and people who want a quiet meeting place in natural surroundings.

Nearby places to visit are Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary in Bagdad and the historic villages of Kempton and Oatlands. It is also a useful base for exploring the cultural and natural landscapes of the southern midlands.
